Innovative Mobility Hubs in Munich

Innovative Mobility Hubs in Munich

01.08.2024

We are pleased to introduce two new mobility hubs that help shape urban life in Munich.

Both mobility hubs will be available to local residents for a one-year trial period. This approach allows us to monitor and evaluate the hubs over several seasons.

Features of the Two Mobility Hubs

The two newly introduced mobility hubs are based on our innovative Parklet urban furniture concept and each offers unique features:

The Neighborhood Hub

This hub is equipped with a lending cabinet that offers residents access to various everyday items. Here, residents can safely borrow items for a certain period of time and return them afterward. Examples include a beer garden set for a spontaneous gathering or outdoor games and recreational equipment.

The Relaxation Hub

For a short break or social gathering, this hub offers two lounge chairs and a specially designed table-bench combination that can also be used by wheelchair users. An ideal place for relaxation or social gatherings outdoors.

Bicycle Parking Spaces, Repair Stations, and a Public Bookshelf

Both hubs are equipped with our proven bicycle parking systems, each offering five spaces on the Kappa® bike rack and an additional two spaces on the Aris Modular bike leaning rail for special bicycles. This encourages bicycle use and supports environmentally friendly mobility.

In addition, each hub features a Clorofilla Basic bike service station, allowing cyclists to carry out minor repairs themselves. Another highlight is the public bookshelf, which can be used by residents as a community book exchange. This promotes not only reading, but also the exchange of knowledge and culture within the community.

Part of the “Creating NEBourhoods Together” Project

The mobility hubs are part of the “Creating NEBourhoods Together” project, a flagship initiative of the European Union’s New European Bauhaus (NEB). The aim of the project is to work together with citizens, creatives, and experts to make urban life future-proof, socially equitable, and environmentally friendly. Thanks to our partnership with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), we are proud participants in this innovative project.

We invite all Munich residents to discover and use these new mobility hubs. Your feedback and experiences are invaluable to us as we continue improving our products and making Munich an even better place to live.
