Why Scooter Parking Systems Matter

A Look Behind the Development of the Rulo® parking system
Kick scooters and privately owned e-scooters are now an integral part of urban mobility. They represent flexible transportation, short trips, and a new normal in everyday life. However, as their use increases, so do the demands placed on public spaces. One question is coming increasingly into focus: How can scooters be parked properly, safely, and permanently?
This question was not only asked by cities, schools, and institutions—it was also the starting point for the development of our own scooter parking system. Rulo® is part of our range of scooter parking systems developed specifically for public spaces.
Why Scooter Parking Systems Should Be Part of Modern Mobility Planning
In practice, it quickly became clear that a lack of parking options leads to problems. Scooters are parked haphazardly, tip over, block pathways, or obstruct entrances. This creates disorder and usage conflicts, particularly in high-traffic areas such as schoolyards, educational institutions, or public spaces.
What initially seems like a minor issue is evolving into an infrastructure challenge as the number of scooters increases. Traditional solutions from the bicycle sector are only partially effective here—scooters differ significantly in design, handling, and usage. As user numbers grow, it becomes clear just how important structured planning of parking facilities is.
Diversity as a Key Challenge
The scooter market is extremely diverse. Different models, sizes, and user groups encounter limited space and varying site conditions. The requirements for a parking system range from three-wheeled children’s scooters to city and stunt scooters, all the way to privately used e-scooters.
For our development, this meant that a single solution for specific models would not suffice. We needed a system that works universally, is intuitive to use, and at the same time withstand the demands of public spaces.
Parking Scooters Safely and Neatly: What Modern Parking Solutions Must Achieve
The development of Rulo® did not begin with a finished design, but rather with a fundamental analysis. Despite the wide variety of models, commonalities emerged in the basic ergonomic dimensions of many scooters. This insight formed the basis for a universal approach.
At the same time, the usage context in public spaces played a central role. A scooter parking system must function without instructions, be self-explanatory, and be intuitive to use. This led to a deliberately minimalist design that prioritizes function and stability.
The question of flexibility also accompanied the development process from the very beginning. Different locations require different solutions—sometimes compact, sometimes large-scale, sometimes freestanding, sometimes wall-mounted. We regularly encounter these requirements in projects with cities and municipalities, and they consistently led to a modular system concept. Accordingly, experience from our services for cities and municipalities flowed directly into the development.
From Challenge to Solution: A Universal Scooter Parking System for Public Spaces
The result is the Rulo® Scooter Parker. The system consists of posts and parking hoops that can be combined and are available in various lengths. This allows for the creation of both small and large parking facilities—single-sided or double-sided, depending on the available space.
Two different height options for the parking hoops allow for the secure and ergonomically sound parking of various scooter types. The integrated locking element is designed so that standard padlocks and bike locks can be used—without additional components or special solutions.
Various installation methods, surface mounting, concrete installation, or wall mounting to wall mounting, ensure that Rulo® can be adapted to virtually any structural situation. Selected reference projects demonstrate how such solutions are implemented in practice.
A Future-Proof System
As micromobility continues to gain traction, the need for durable, adaptable infrastructure is also growing. Scooter parking systems are increasingly becoming part of comprehensive mobility concepts in public spaces.
The Rulo® scooter parking system is deliberately designed to grow with these requirements. Modular and expandable, robust in use, and universally applicable, it offers a long-term solution for the orderly integration of scooters into everyday life. This transforms a simple parking space into a building block of modern mobility planning. If you are planning a suitable solution for your project, you can submit a project request directly.
