Do I need planning permission for a roofed carport in Germany?

Whether a carport requires planning permission depends on the respective state building regulations and local municipal requirements. As a general guide, carports with a floor area of up to 50 m² may be exempt from the formal approval procedure under certain conditions in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Berlin and Brandenburg. In Bavaria, a limit of 75 m³ gross volume also applies. In Baden-Württemberg and Berlin, the average wall height is additionally limited to 3 m.

Even where no formal approval procedure is required, building regulations still apply. Boundary development in particular is subject to requirements concerning wall height, boundary length and setback areas.
